With 2018 coming to a close, it’s important that every single passenger vehicle have its yearly inspection completed and passed! For taxis and buses, they need to be inspected twice, yearly. At WestMount Service Centre, we want to remind you…
“If It’s Blue, It’s Due!”
Contrary to what some might think, inspections are not just another money grabbing service. Yearly inspections are to encourage vehicle safety, to check key equipment in the vehicle and address any mechanical issues that might have otherwise gone unnoticed. When you pass your inspection, it means that your car has been deemed safe to drive on the road.
Unfortunately, some drivers are willing to risk road safety to cut a few costs. As the RCMP website states “Some New Brunswick drivers are resorting to underhanded and illegal practices to save money, and that is something that can end up costing people their lives.” Old stickers are easy to spot, as the color changes every year, but some drivers will create fake stickers to try and get a free pass. The risk is not worth the consequences.
The annual inspection fee is $35.00. If you get rejected, the service centre will give you a rejection sticker. This gives you 14 days to get the problems fixed and return for a pass, hopefully! BUT, if you are caught with no current inspection certificate, you could be fined $172.50 or if you are one of the risk-takers who drives around with a fraudulent sticker, you will be fined a MINIMUM OF $292.50, but depending on the situation there could be a bigger consequence involved. Needless to say, it is worth the small fee to ensure safety both while driving and when seen by officers.
Many service centres are closing for the holiday season, but WestMount Service Centre will be open periodically before the New Year. Check out our website, social media or previous blog post for our hours and book your inspection today. We want you to be safe and remember, if it’s blue, it’s due!
